Timecop (1994)
More gentle time zone comedy from first and only person to have traveled internationally
Hey Laker Girls regrets the error: upon revisiting Joker (2019) it is actually a relatable and realistic film. It was right to be a best picture nominee. Call it the follies of youth, but I now understand what drove Joker to madness, I see him now.
Joker: I streamed that Clippers Pelicans game illegally.
[Audience gasps and murmurs]
Adam Silver: Okay, I’m waiting for the punchline.
Joker: There is no punchline. It’s not a joke.
[Audience murmurs]
Adam Silver: You’re serious, aren’t you? You’re telling us you contributed to the ongoing crisis of dwindling NBA viewership.
Joker: Mm-hmm.
Adam Silver: And why should we believe you?
Joker: I ain’t got nothing left to lose. Nothing can hurt me since the bubble. [Chuckles] My life is nothing but a comedy.
[Audience murmuring and booing]
Adam Silver: Let me get this straight. You think that streaming that game is funny?
Joker: I do. And I’m tired of pretending it’s not. I clicked through thirty-seven pop up windows to watch the Clippers lose. Comedy is subjective, Adam. Isn’t that what they say? One of the best parts about being in LA is the NBA games are on at much more sociable hours. But I can’t watch half of them because they’re blacked out on league pass. What am I supposed to do, Adam? Ask the owner of my Airbnb to buy a cable package so I can watch the Clippers play? You, the commissioner that knows so much… you decide what’s right or wrong? The same way that you decide what’s funny, or not.
Adam Silver: Hm. Well I’d prefer you don’t publicise your illegal NBA activity from now on, but in this case it seems like you were punished enough. Okay?
[Audience applauds]
Joker: How about another joke, Adam?
Adam Silver: [Sigh] Sure.
Joker: What do you get when you cross a mentally ill loner with a society that abandons him and treats him like trash?
Adam Silver: I don’t know. A Sixers fan?
Joker: Yes.
[Seven seconds of dead air]
Adam Silver: Great. We’ll be right back.
I don’t hope the Celtics succeed in the playoffs, but after catching one of the quizzes they made to play on the jumbotron during timeouts, I am forced to both admit and respect that the Celtics are having fun!
That’s it for this week! Thank you for looking at my little pictures. In case anyone thinks I don’t edit these posts, know that you were spared a photoshop of the combination Pokemon/CBS show Young Shellder. You’re welcome!
